AUSU demands 60% reservation of seats in PG courses at Assam Univ & admission fees waiver

Oct. 8: Amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the students are finding hard to cope up with the emerging situation. Many students and even their parents are scared to allow them to pursue higher studies outside the state. Moreover, the pandemic has already upset the academic calendar and the final semester examination for TDC courses were held quite late and so naturally, the results will also be published late. So even those who are willing to venture outside Assam for PG courses will miss the deadline. Highlighting these points, Assam University Students’ Union (AUSU) submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor on Thursday.

It is in the backdrop of the issues raised by them, the Students’ Union of the Assam University raised the demand of 60 percent of reservation of seats in PG courses for those students who have graduated from the affiliated colleges under the varsity. Biswarup Bhattacharjee, President of AUSU said that usually many students opt for PG courses outside Assam every year. But this time, the situation is completely different. Almost all graduates will opt for PG courses in Assam University. “As such we strongly demand that 60 percent seats be reserved for students who will pass out from the affiliated colleges.”

Apart from this, AUSU also raised the issue of cent percent admission fees waiver for students seeking to admission to PG & other courses in the varsity. They highlighted the economic constraints faced by the parents and guardians due to the pandemic. In the memorandum, they stated that such a humanitarian move by the varsity for this year will go a long way in standing besides those students who are not financially sound.
