AUS triumphs over NITS in Friendly Cricket Match

Way2barak, March 9 : A friendly cricket match between Assam University, Silchar (AUS), and the National Institute of Technology, Silchar (NITS), was held today at the Assam University Sports Ground. The match played between the faculty and staff of the two institutes, was a spirited display of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Rajive Mohan Panth, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, and Prof. Dilip Kumar Baidya, Director of NIT Silchar, who attended as the Chief Guest. Also present were Prof. M. Tinneswari, Director of the Sports Board, Dr. Tapodhir Acharjee, Deputy Director of the Sports Board, and Prof. Piyush Pandey, Director of IQAC, Uday Shankar, IAS (member of Finance Committee), Prof Fajal A. Talukdar from NITS along with faculty and staff from both institutions.

The AUS team was led by Captain and Director (in charge) Sports Board Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das and Vice-Captain Mr. Niranjan Das, while the NITS team had Prof. Wasim Arif as Captain and Dr. Biplab Das as Vice-Captain. AUS won the toss and opted to bat first, setting a target of 106 runs for 9 wickets in 15 overs.

In response, the NITS team struggled to chase the target and was bowled out for 62 runs, leading to AUS securing a comfortable victory. Dr. Rajesh Aldarthi delivered a stellar bowling performance, taking six wickets, earning him both the Best Bowler Award and the Man of the Match title. Niranjan Das, who played a crucial role in AUS’s innings, was declared the Best Batsman.

The match commentary was provided by Prof. Piyush Pandey and Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, adding to the excitement of the game. The event concluded with an award distribution ceremony, where the dignitaries applauded the efforts of both teams, emphasizing the importance of such events in fostering inter-institutional harmony and encouraging a healthy balance between academics and sports.
