AUS Celebrates 11th International Yoga Day with Zeal and Unity

Way2barak, June 21 : The Sports Board of Assam University, Silchar, celebrated the 11th International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm and spirit at Netaji Subhash Mancha on Saturday, June 21, 2025. The event commenced at 6:45 AM and concluded by 8:15 AM, witnessing vibrant participation from across the university community.

The occasion was graced by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rajive Mohan Panth, who attended the celebration along with distinguished faculty members, administrative staff, research scholars, students, and invited guests.

The programme began with a warm welcome address by Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das, Sports Director (In-Charge), setting the tone for the event. This was followed by an inspiring address by the Vice Chancellor, emphasizing the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life for physical and mental well-being.

Several dignitaries were present to mark the occasion, including Prof. M. K. Sinha, Dr. Barunjyoti Choudhury, Dr. Bishwa Ranjan Roy, Dr. Lalzo S. Thangjom, Dr. Siddhartha Sharma, Mr. Kishore Kanti Paul, Mr. Niranjan Das, Mr. K. Anand Kumar Singha, Mr. Anupam Choudhury, and many others, reflecting the university’s collective commitment to health and wellness.

 

More than 100 participants came together in the true spirit of yoga, participating in the session led by Mr. Pinku Ranjan Paul, a seasoned yoga instructor from Yoga Niketan, Silchar, accompanied by his team of students. Their guidance made the session both engaging and effective.

To mark the occasion, the Sports Board also organized an E-Poster Competition and an Essay Writing Competition on the theme of yoga. Winners were felicitated during the programme, with prizes distributed by Prof. Rajive Mohan Panth, Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das, Prof. M. K. Sinha, and Dr. Siddhartha Sharma, Assistant Director of the Sports Board.

The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Lalzo S. Thangjom, who expressed gratitude to all participants, guests, and organizers for making the event a resounding success.

The celebration highlighted Assam University’s ongoing efforts to promote holistic health, mindfulness, and the timeless practice of yoga among its academic community.
