Assault on non-tribals in Shillong; Hindu Advocates Forum demands strict action
way2barak, Oct.31: The incident of physically assault of the non-tribals in Shillong recently by the members of he Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People ( FKJGP) has invited the wrath of people from different walks of life. The Hindu Advocates Forum also criticised the act of the FKJGP and submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister and state Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar on Monday wherein they demanded stringent action against those guilty for the assault.
In the said memorandum, the Hindu Advocates Forum wrote, “Chaotic scenes were witnessed in Meghalaya capital Shillong recently during a rally of the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People ( FKJGP) as the visuals from Shillong clearly shows where the FKJGP members brought out a rally, where from people of that rally began to harass, abuse and lethally attack the non-tribal’s Hindus in the roads of Shillong. Many shops of Bengali Community were set ablaze. The removal of AFSPA from Meghalaya seems to be a relaxation uncalled for. A region where uncivilized people can go on mayhem in the state capital. The Govt of Meghalaya fails to take any action against the assaulters, every time by terming them as unidentified miscreants is essentially required to be ruled by the military only.”
“That, The unprovoked assault on innocent non-tribal persons in the heart of Shillong that too just opposite a police station speaks volume of the status of Hindu minority community in Meghalaya even after half a century of its existence. The attack is nothing but an organized and pre- planned one just to convey that the Hindu minorities have to bear such violence in the coming days as well. Legacy of such hate crimes is continuing for over forty years with the tacit support from all over,” added the Hindu Advocates Forum in their memorandum.
It is in this backdrop that they demanded strict action against the members of Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People( FKJGP) as well as urged upon to handover the case to NIA for special investigation as to find out the ‘role of European Churches (if any) behind it.’
