Assam’s 1st coronavirus patient from Karimganj is still positive at SMCH

April 27: The first coronavirus case in Assam was reported from the district of Karimganj on 31 March, 2020. The 52-year-old patient is still undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). The patient is also battling with cancer and diabetes. He is learnt to be still positive even after several tests.

State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press briefing at NHM Office in Guwahati on Sunday said that the 1st patient of COVID-19 in Assam is still under treatment at SMCH as his samples continue to test positive.

As of now, there were a total of 35 COVID-19 positive cases in Assam. One of them from Hailakandi died at SMCH. 27 of them were discharged and sent for 14 days home quarantine, while only 7 active cases are there in Assam.
