NCC conducts awareness rally on Earth Day

Way2barak, April 22 : To commemorate the Earth Day which falls on 22 April every year, an Awareness Rally was conducted by NCC Cadets to educate the masses about the dangers from the incriminating developmental activities without caring for the collateral damage it was causing on the environment .

The exuberant participation by the cadets clearly conveyed the concern displayed and the awareness of the next-generation with the dangers to the Environment, livelihoods & planet from incessant pollution caused by the human race. The Cadets of NCC Group, Silchar also exuberantly participated in various programmes which include Painting Competition conducted from 18th to 21 Apr for the Cadets in Karimganj, Cachar & Dima Hasao districts.

Approx 2000 cadete participated in the exercise.The kaleidoscope of the artistic talent displayed aptly indicates that the next generation was keenly aware of the dangers to environment & planet due to the economic & other activities of human kind spelling doom for itself but not realized soon. If we further continue on this path of no return, the day was not far when we would not have the Earth we inherited from our forefathers as a gift for our children.

The prowess displayed in making of the kaleidoscope of the artistic talent aptly. The junior wing/division Cadets of JNV, NC Hills (Haflong) did not lag behind their senior colleagues by carrying out Tree Plantation Drive in the school campus in build up for the Earth Day. The cadets also took a solemn pledge for keeping the air, environment, surroundings & the planet safe for the next generation-Saving the Earth to save hope of life in the future.

The Cadets also took the pledge to Go Green to keep the Earth Clean. Haflong & Maibang towns have immensely benefitted from the frequent programmes by Cadets aimed at restoring the greenery & general awareness in the population for conservation of our environment.

The Cleanliness Drive conducted as part of the Puneet Sagar Abhiyan an initiative by the NCC to review and revitalize the local water bodies saw enthusiastic participation from the Cadets, in cleaning the Barak River and Robidung water body(in Dima Hasao district) amply assisted by volunteers from various NGOs, to include Milap Sangchal, Robinhood Army, Dreams Celebrations, Leo Club Silchar (Central) and Vihan as well as government agencies like Silchar Municipal Corporation and Pollution Control Board, Silchar saw removal of more than 2000 kgs of trash from the banks. The drive was conducted despite regular drizzle which instead of dampening the spirit motivated further as the temperatures came down substantially, thus providing a much required resite from the scorching heat witnessed continuously for a few days.
