Assam University hosts two-day CME on Immunology
ইমিউনোলজি নিয়ে দু’দিনের অবিরাম চিকিৎসা শিক্ষা কার্যক্রম সম্পন্ন আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ২৬ ফেব্রুয়ারি : ‘মৌলিক ও উন্নত রোগ প্রতিরোধ ক্ষমতার বিভিন্ন বিষয়’ নিয়ে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে আয়োজিত হলো দু’দিনের অবিরাম চিকিৎসা শিক্ষা কার্যক্রম। বুধ ও বৃহস্পতিবার জীববিজ্ঞান ও জৈব-তথ্যবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের প্রেক্ষাগৃহে আয়োজিত এই কার্যক্রমের সূচনা করেন উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের জীবপ্রযুক্তি বিভাগের উদ্যোগে আয়োজিত এই কার্যক্রমে সহযোগিতার হাত বাড়িয়ে দেয় ভারতীয় রোগ প্রতিরোধ ক্ষমতা সংস্থা। এতে দেশের বিশিষ্ট চিকিৎসা বিজ্ঞানীরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন কলকাতার ইন্ডিয়ান অ্যাসোসিয়েশন ফর দ্য কাল্টিভ্যাশন অব সায়েন্সের বিজ্ঞানী অধ্যাপক শ্যামল রায় এবং সম্মানিত অতিথি হিসেবে ছিলেন নতুন দিল্লির জওহরলাল নেহরু বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের জৈবপ্রযুক্তি স্কুলের প্রাক্তন অধ্যাপক সন্তোষ কুমার কর ও আগ্রার আইসিএমআর ন্যাশনাল জলমা ইনস্টিটিউট ফর লেপ্রসি অ্যান্ড আদার মাইব্যাকটেরিয়াল ডিসিসের প্রাক্তন অধিকর্তা ও এমেরিটাস বিজ্ঞানী অধ্যাপক উৎপল সেনগুপ্ত। অনুষ্ঠানে পৌরোহিত্য করেন উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ।

প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্যে অধ্যাপক রায় বলেন, রোগ প্রতিরোধ ক্ষমতার মৌলিক গবেষণাকে শক্তিশালী না করলে উন্নত চিকিৎসা-পদ্ধতির বিকাশ সম্ভব নয়। তিনি নবীন গবেষকদের উদ্দেশে মৌলিক জ্ঞানচর্চা ও পরীক্ষাগারভিত্তিক অনুসন্ধানকে অগ্রাধিকার দেওয়ার আহ্বান জানান। সম্মানীয় অতিথিরা তাঁদের বক্তব্যে সংক্রামক ও অসংক্রামক রোগ প্রতিরোধে প্রতিরক্ষা-ব্যবস্থার ভূমিকার ওপর আলোকপাত করেন। তাঁরা বলেন, সমন্বিত গবেষণা ও আন্তঃবিভাগীয় সহযোগিতাই ভবিষ্যৎ চিকিৎসাবিজ্ঞানের প্রধান চালিকাশক্তি।

সভাপতির বক্তব্যে উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক পন্থ রোগ প্রতিরোধ ক্ষমতার আধুনিক গবেষণা ও জনস্বাস্থ্য রক্ষায় এর তাৎপর্য তুলে ধরেন। এর আগে স্বাগত বক্তব্য পেশ করেন জৈবপ্রযুক্তি বিভাগের প্রধান ও কর্মসূচির আহ্বায়ক অধ্যাপক মহুয়া সেনগুপ্ত। অনুষ্ঠানে অন্যদের মধ্যে উপস্থিত ছিলেন স্কুল অব লাইফ সায়েন্সেসের ডিন অধ্যাপক প্রণব বিহারী মজুমদারও। উদ্বোধনী অধিবেশন সঞ্চালনা করেন গবেষক পৌলমী দাস। শেষে ধন্যবাদ সূচক বক্তব্য রাখেন অধ্যাপক ড. ইয়াসমিন চৌধুরী।

Way2barak, February 26 : A two-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on “Issues in Basic and Advanced Immunity” was organized at Assam University. The programme was held on Wednesday and Thursday at the auditorium of the Dept. of Life Science & Bioinformatics. The event was organized by the Dept. of Biotechnology of the university, with support from the Indian Immunology Society. Eminent medical scientists from across the country participated in the programme.

The inaugural session was graced by Prof. Shyamal Roy of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata, as the Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour included former Prof. Santosh Kumar Kar of the School of Biotechnology, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and Prof. Utpal Sengupta, former Director and Emeritus Scientist of the ICMR National JALMA Institute for Leprosy and Other Mycobacterial Diseases, Agra. The session was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant.

In his address, Prof. Roy emphasized that without strengthening fundamental research in immunology, the development of advanced therapeutic strategies would not be possible. He urged young researchers to prioritize foundational knowledge and laboratory-based investigations. The distinguished guests highlighted the role of the immune system in combating both infectious and non-communicable diseases. They noted that integrated research and interdisciplinary collaboration would be the driving forces of future medical science.

In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pant underscored the significance of modern immunological research in safeguarding public health. Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Prof. Mahua Sengupta, Head of the Department of Biotechnology and Convener of the programme. Among others present was Prof. Pranab Bihari Majumdar, Dean of the School of Life Sciences. The inaugural session was conducted by research scholar Poulami Das, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Yasmin Choudhury.
