Assam University files FIR against some persons for blocking the main gate

July 27: On Wednesday, a group of students were protesting near the main entrance of Assam University. These students were complaining about mass anomalies in the ongoing process of election of office bearers of the Students’ Union. Later on, it was alleged by the University authorities that some persons even blocked the main gate of the varsity thereby causing disruption to the normal functioning. Later on, the University authorities registered an FIR against some persons for blocking the main entrance.

In the complaint letter written to the Officer-in-charge of Dwarbond Police Station on Wednesday, the Registrar wrote that “some persons have been blocking the University main gate since 8.30 AM thereby disrupting normal functioning of the university. Further, these persons are disrupting the process of the smooth conduct of the ensuing Assam University Students’ Union election. AUSU election is a process whereby the students of the University exercise their democratic rights to choose their Union representatives who have important roles in academic and administrative functioning of the university.” It is in this context that the Registrar urged upon the police to lodge an FIR and take appropriate action “in order to ensure free passage at the main entrance of the University gate and also to ensure the smooth conduct of election on 29.07.2022.”
