Assam University Celebrates Swami Vivekanand Jayanti as National Youth Day
way2barak, 12 January: Assam University celebrated Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, observed as National Youth Day, with great fervor today. The event began with floral tributes to Swami Vivekananda at 8:30 AM in front of the Administrative Building. Students from various departments, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and participants of Yuva Sangham from Chhattisgarh took part in the celebrations.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant addressed the gathering, highlighting the vital role of youth in achieving the vision of “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047, as envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. He urged young individuals to adopt Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and integrate them into their lives, empowering themselves to contribute significantly to nation-building.
Registrar Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath underscored the importance of youth in realizing Swami Vivekananda’s vision for India. He called upon the younger generation to work tirelessly towards making India a global leader.
NSS Programme Coordinator Prof. M. Gangabhushan inspired the audience with reflections on Swami Vivekananda’s teachings. Quoting, “Service to Mankind is Service to God,” he encouraged everyone to follow this principle as a guiding philosophy in life.
The celebrations continued at the Bipin Chandra Paul Seminar Hall at 10:00 AM with a documentary screening on Swami Vivekananda, followed by speeches from Prof. Gangabhushan, Dr. Ajita Tiwari, and Mr. Prashanto Das. Students from affiliated colleges of Assam University, Children and youth from Shilpogram village also participated, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
The event concluded with the National Anthem, leaving participants inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s message and ideals. The celebration at Assam University served as a platform for reflection, motivation, and a renewed commitment to youth empowerment and nation-building.
