Assam to adopt Gujarat model; Power Minister Bimal Borah to visit Gujarat for 1st hand information

June 15: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma held a video conference with Energy Minister of Gujarat, Saurabh Patel. During the virtual interaction, wide ranging issues on the matter of power was discussed in the presence of Assam Power minister Bimal Borah.

Expressing his views, CM Sarma informed that they discussed “best practices & interventions by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) which can be replicated in Assam.” He further stated that this sharing of expertise benefit APDCL, APGCL & AEGCL.

After the virtual meeting, Dr Sarma said that Assam Power Minister, Bimal Borah will visit Gujarat to understand the Gujarat model and get first-hand experience of the practices which can be used in Assam for qualitative development. He tweeted, “Grateful to Hon Power Min, Gujarat for the cooperation extended.”

Meanwhile, during the day Chief Secretary of Assam, Jishnu Barua (IAS 1988-Batch), on June 13, (Assam Govt. Notification No. AAI.17/2021/6) has been assigned the additional charge of Chairman, Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL), Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGCL), and Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Ltd (AEGCL) for the time being and until further Order.

The orders came consequent upon acceptance of resignation of the former Chairman of APDCL, APGCL, & AEGCL, V K Pipersenia (Retd. IAS 1980-Batch) by the Government of Assam.
