ASSAM RIFLES DESTROYED OPIUM POPPY CULTIVATION IN TAMENGLONG
way2barak, 4 march: Srikona Battalion of Headquarter 21 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles(East) destroyed large scale cultivation of Poppy plants at Kaimai village Hill Ranges in Tousem Sub Division of Tamenglong District in Manipur on Thursday.
Based on the input recieved about large scale plantation of Poppy plants cultivation in Hill Ranges of Kaimai village, a joint Operation was launched by the Srikona Battalion of Assam Rifles alongwith Manipur police from Tousem Police Station, and Forest Department Officials.
The party destroyed approximately 4.2 Lakh Poppy plants which were planted in about 21 acres of forest land worth approximately ₹ 1.03 crores at Kaimai village Hill range in Tousem Sub division. State Police is investigating further details.
In the war against drugs this is the fourth operation in the series of destruction of poppy plants conducted by Srikona Battalion Assam Rifles, which will curb the illegal activities of Narco terrorism and ultimately put complete end to drug money fuelling insurgency in the area.
