Assam registers biggest one-day spike of 1218 +ve cases on Friday, total goes upto 21,864

July 17: On Friday, 1218 coronavirus positive cases were reported from across Assam. This is the biggest one-day spike in Assam since the 1st case in the state was reported from Cachar on 31 March, 2020. With this, the total number of cases in the state has now gone upto 21,864. Prior to this, on 4 July, Assam recorded 1202 positive cases. It needs mention here that it took around 60 days to reach the first 1000 positive cases, whereas on 17 July itself, 1218 positive cases were recorded. Further, Friday also registered another death of a COVID positive patient, thereby taking the death tally of the state to 51.

In a tweet, State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Alert ~ 1218 new #COVID19 ve+ patients in Assam today, with 570 reported from Guwahati City alone Please follow strict containment measures to stay safe!”
