Assam Police registers 85 cases for offensive social media post, 735 such posts deleted

April 20: Since the outbreak of the coronavirus and subsequent nationwide lockdown, the government has been keeping strict vigil on social media posts which are offensive in nature. Many such posts which are capable of creating panic among the masses are circulated in various social media platforms by the netizens. The Assam Police has been keeping a strict vigil on such offensive posts.

Till now, 75 people were arrested by Assam Police for uploading such offensive posts. 85 cases have been registered in this connection. Around 200 people were sent by the cops for counselling. More than 735 such posts capable of creating panic among the people were pulled down from social media. The Assam Police has given a strict warning in this regard and urged upon netizens not to post any offensive content in the social media.
