Assam Police detains Shrinkhal Chaliha of Bir Lachit Sena from Sivasagar during protest against Himanta govt
Jan. 4: In a latest development, Assam Police has detained Shrinkhal Chaliha and some other members of Bir Lachit Sena from Sivasagar. On Monday, Bir Lachit Sena had given a call for protest demonstration at Sivasagar on the issue of withdrawing Assamese language from APSC.
Raising slogans against Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP government in the state, Shrinkhal Chaliha stated, “We we just about to take out a protest movement when the police forces came and detained us. Our movement was to assert that Assamese language needs to be in vogue in Assam. So do we need to take any permission to raise demand of protection of Assamese in Assam? Police told that direction has come from Guwahati directing not to allow us to take out a protest movement.”
While being taken in a police vehicle, Shrinkhal Chaliha screamed at the top of his voice and said, “We would not allow fascist government to run in Assam. We will not allow BJP to win a single seat from Sivasagar in the forthcoming Municipal election. We won’t tolerate goondaism by the BJP. In a democracy, government cannot be run in the form Himanta Biswa-led BJP is functioning. We are not terrorists and neither the government is of Taliban. If the government feels that it would be able to scare Bir Lachit Sena by arresting its members, then they are in fool’s paradise.”
