Assam man who fled from quarantine centre in Kerala apprehended at Bongaigaon

March 19: A man from Assam who had been quarantined in Kerala after he showed Covid-19 symptoms fled along with two others, one from Odisha and the other from West Bengal on 16 March, 2020. Kerala police tracked his cell phone and found that he was on the move with his location changing rapidly. All railway stations along the route to Assam have also been alerted to keep an eye out for the man.

Morigaon SP Swapnaneel Deka was informed of this incident by his kerala counterpart. Mr. Deka told, “We are tracking his mobile phone, based on which we believe he is on a train to Assam.” All railway stations along the route to Assam have also been alerted to keep an eye out for the man. Railway Protection Force of Northeast Frontier Railway successfully traced.

The man, who hails from Lahorighat in central Assam’s Morigaon district, was traced from the 13175 Kanchanjungha Express train. He was then shifted to isolation ward of a railway hospital. As per reports, the man worked at a restaurant in Kozhikode where a person from Dubai had eaten food before he was tested positive for coronavirus. The employees of the restaurant had been asked to be on home quarantine but the three people had allegedly fled from Kerala.

At the railway hospital in Assam, the samples of the man were collected and have sent for testing. Such irresponsible act by the man has raised anger among the netizens who have taken to social media to criticise the act.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday made a fervent appeal to all Indians to stay indoors as much as possible to avoid getting infected by coronavirus, saying the world has never seen a danger as grave as this. He called for ‘Janata Curfew’ on 22 March, 2020 from 7 AM to 9 PM, saying no citizen, barring those in essential services, should get out of house.
