Assam govt withdraws travel advisory for people travelling to Mizoram
Aug 5: In a latest development, Assam Government on Thursday has withdrawn the travel advisory issued by it for people travelling to Mizoram. Issuing an order to this effect, MS Manivannan, Commissioner & Secretary to the Govt of Assam, Home & Political Departments, Dispur on 5 August stated, “In view of the joint statement issued today, i.e., 5th August, 2021, by the representatives of the Government of Assam and Mizoram, the Travel Advisory issued on 29 July is hereby withdrawn.”
Earlier, the Government of Assam on 29 July in an order stated that the people of Assam are advised not to travel to Mizoram as any threat to personal safety of people of Assam cannot be accepted. The advisory further stated that the people of Assam, staying in Mizoram due to work related compulsion, should exercise utmost caution.
However, on 5 August, Assam govt has withdrawn the travel advisory for people travelling to Mizoram after talks with Assam and Mizoram. On Thursday, following a meeting between Assam and Mizoram in Aizawl, a joint statement was released wherein both the state governments agreed to take forward the initiatives taken by MHA and their respective Chief Ministers to remove tensions prevailing around inter-state border and to find lasting solutions to disputes through meaningful dialogue.
