Assam Govt to run pilot project to convert municipal leachate into raw material for industrial purpose
If successful, similar project will be taken up in other parts of Assam: CM
Feb. 7: Government of Assam will run a pilot project at Gotanagar, Guwahati to convert municipal leachate into a raw material for industrial purpose and if successful, replicate it in other urban centres in Assam. This was stated by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference held at Janata Bhawan, Dispur on Monday.
A leachate is any liquid that, in the course of passing through matter, extracts soluble or suspended solids, or any other component of the material through which it has passed.
The Chief Minister further stated that the project would involve an amount of Rs. 178 crore. The entire leachate by the use of a chemical will be converted into a paste, which is required in the cement factories. Within the next one and a half years, the waste disposal area will be converted into a field. If this project becomes successful, then this sort of waste disposal mechanisms will be taken up in others parts of the state, added the Chief Minister.
