June 3: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday stated that the decision on holding the class 12 exams in the state will be taken only after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announces modalities for marking the students. The Chief Minister was addressing the media during his visit to Delhi. Replying to a query whether the Class XII examinations conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will be cancelled, the Chief Minister said that a decision in this matter will be taken after consultation with all stakeholders as it is a question of a students’ future.
There will be no Class 12 board exams this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday, ending weeks of anxiety among students and parents over the Covid situation in the country. While cancelling the CBSE Class XII Board examinations, it was stated that CBSE will take steps to compile the results of class XII students as per a well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner. However, on the same day, state Education Miniter Ranoj Pegu stated that the Class XII final examination conducted by AHSEC will definitely be held. He said that the dates for the Class XII exams will be announced within 2 days. But now, after the statement of the Chief Minister on Thursday, it seems that Assam government will not hurry but rather wait for CBSE to announce its modalities for marking the students.
