Assam govt devising system to provide pension on the day of retirement: CM Himanta

Sept. 14: There are multiple instances in various departments of Assam where after retirement, employees have to run from pillar to post to get their pension sanctioned by the government. The irony of the matter lies in the fact that most of the delay is caused by that very office/ institution where the employee has served for decades. When suddenly an employee stops getting salary after retirement, it becomes very difficult for him/her to run his family.

Now to end such type of harassment of the retired employees, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is contemplating to devise a new system, whereby the state government would disburse the pension on the day of retirement of the employee.

In a review meeting with the officials of the Directorate of Pension, Government of Assam, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma took stock of the pending pension cases and also the rate of disbursal. He also met with the staff of the office. Expressing his views, CM Dr Sarma said, “Pensions should be disbursed fast and in a hassle-free manner. I reiterated this in a review with Directorate of Pension, and took stock of pendency of pension cases and disbursal rate. GoA is working towards a system of providing pension on day of retirement to govt employees.”

To make pension disbursement system paperless & swift, the Chief Minister directed Assam Electronics Development Corp Ltd (AMTRON) to align Kritagyata & AMTRON pension portals & link with treasury offices. Directorate of Pension to aim at disposal of 1500 pension cases per month, from now onwards.
