Assam govt declares evaluation criteria of Class X & XII
July 1: The government of Assam has announced the evaluation criteria for the students of Class X and Class XII on Thursday. The results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) students and High School (HS) students will be calculated using those criteria. There will be no rank list for top ten students and the highest marks in each subject will not be announced. It was also recommended that there will be no provision for Re-Checking of Answers Scripts since there is no physical examination held this year. However, students’ grievance of any error(s) reported will be endorsed.
Evaluation criteria for Class X:
- 40% marking from Class 9
- 40% marking from Class 10 (pre-tests and other tests),
- 20% markings to be determined by respective school. (Factors like attendance, internal assessment, etc will be taken into consideration for awarding the 20 per cent marks)
- In case of non-availability of Class 10 marks, 70% to be added from Class 9.
They have to appear in immediate next HSLC/AHM exam with same Roll Number, on receipt of their request.

The Governor of Assam accepted the report submitted by the Committee constituted under the Chairmanship of Prof. A.K. Buragohain, former Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University. The Governor of Assam directed that the following steps should be taken expeditiously by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) to declare the result of the HSLC/AHM examination 2021:
I. An appropriate follow-up action on the report shall be taken with a proper mechanism to collect the evaluated marks from the school concerned as well as the Inspectorate of Schools.
2. A scheme to provide an appropriate mechanism for redressal of dispute or grievance of the students after the declaration of results as done by the CBSE and ICSE Boards shall be formulated within 7 days. A Grievance redressal forum shall be constituted by the SEBA at the State and District level.
3. The result of the HSLC/AHM 2021 should be declared before 31st July 2021.
4, In respect of those students who are not satisfied with the record-based marking/evaluation system, SEBA will arrange a special examination of HSLC/AHM Examination, 2021 within 15th September 2021 subject to the condition that Covid 19 pandemic is under control and conducive for the conduct of the examination. In case, if it is not feasible to hold such examination within the ongoing session, they may also be permitted to sit in such examination to be held in 2022. This will provide the students a chance for improvement/ betterment of the results.
5. The marks secured by the students in this evaluation process by SEBA without holding physical examination will be acceptable for admission to the next Higher Class in Educational Institutions and future career, where passing of such examination are considered as qualifying examination. But for those students who aspire to become teachers/ employees in the Education Department of Assam or any other Department under Government of Assam where recruitment of teachers/ employees are substantially based on HSLC or HSSLC marks, without there being any scope of written test or interview, shall have to appear in special HSLC/AHM examination to be conducted later after improvement of the situation as stated in para-4 above so that they are at par with previous or future batches of HSLC or HSSLC in assessment of merit.
Evaluation criteria for Class XII:
(a) For assessment of students of Science and Arts Streams with practical subject be assessed with:
- 50 marks calculated from 50 % marks secured by the student in the best three of the subjects in the HSLC or equivalent examination.
- 30 marks be calculated from the marks obtained by the students on the basis of the practical examination conducted by the institutions.
- 10 marks be calculated on the basis of marks obtained by the students in the Class Test / Unit Test / Annual Examination / Pre-Test / Assignment / Project Works etc. and also attendance during the Academic Session 2019-2021.
- 10 marks be allotted on the basis of consideration of the marks obtained by the students out of 90 (Ninety) in earlier 3 (Three) components and 10% of marks secured out of 90 be allotted accordingly.
(b) For assessment of students with non practical subjects (Arts / Commerce):
- 50 marks calculated from 50 % of marks secured by the students in the best three of the subjects in the HSLC or equivalent examination.
- 40 marks be calculated on the basis marks obtained by the students in the Class Test / Unit Test / Annual Examination / Pre-Test / Assignment / Project Works etc. and also attendance during the Academic Session 2019-2021.
- 10 marks be allotted on the basis of consideration of the marks obtained by I students out of 90 (Ninety) in earlier 2 (Two) components and 10% of marks secured out of 90 be allotted accordingly.
Vocational stream:
50 marks to be calculated from 50% of best 3 subjects in HSLC/equivalent exam.
40% marks from practical exam conducted by institutions.
10 marks to be allotted on the basis of marks out of 90 in above mentioned components.
