Assam Election: 60.55 percent voter turnout till 3 PM during Phase 1
March 27: Voting for the 47 constituencies of Assam during the Phase 1 of Assam Assembly Election, 2021 has began on Saturday morning at 7 AM. Long queues could be seen outside polling booths with voters and election officials adhering to COVID-19 protocols. 60.55 percent of electors exercised their franchise till 3 pm in 47 constituencies of Assam. Altogether 264 candidates, including 23 women are in the fray.
Covid-19 protocols for the voters, including social distancing and thermal screening, are being maintained. However, in many of the polling booths, social distancing was compromised. Due to adherence of COVID-19 protocol, the voting is going on in somewhat slow pace. The voting time has been extended this time and it will continue till 6 PM.
Voting is underway in 11,537 polling stations mostly covering the eastern Assam’s 12 districts. A total of 8,109,815 voters, including 4,032,481 females, are eligible to exercise their franchise.
