Assam Cabinet sanctions one-time grant of ₹15 cr to Assam University

way2barak, Nov.29: The Assam Cabinet today met for the first time at Silchar, keeping with the state government’s decision to hold Cabinet meetings in district headquarters outside Guwahati. The Chief Minister after the cabinet meet announced several developmental initiatives for Barak Valley as part of this endeavour. 

Boost to education: 

• GC College to be converted to a full-fledged State University
• Two new colleges at Dholai (Binakandi) and Lakhipur
• One time grant to :

i) Assam University Silchar – Rs. 15 cr,
ii) Barak Engineering College – Rs.15 cr,
iii) Patharkandi Agriculture College -Rs.180 cr

• New academic buildings to be built at: 

i) Cachar Govt High School,
ii) DNHS School, Udarbond
iii) Narsing HS School Silchar
