Assam Cabinet announces bicycles for over 3 lakh students

way2barak, Sept 25 : The Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma resolved to provide bicycles to over 3 lakh students to promote regular school attendance and reduce dropout rates among secondary-level students.

“In today’s meeting of the Assam Cabinet, we resolved to provide bicycles to over 3 lakh students, allot Rs 150 crore for 3 new polytechnics, transfer government land for railway line doubling, and re-engage 451 part-time faculties in engineering colleges and release salaries for 131 teachers in KAAC,” CM Sarma announced on his official X handle.

The initiative will see the procurement of bicycles for 3,23,640 students (both boys and girls) in Class IX across government and provincial schools for the 2024-25 academic year. “The bicycles will ensure ease of communication and security to cover the distance from students’ homes to school and vice versa on time,” stated the cabinet.

In a bid to rectify long-standing pay discrepancies, the cabinet also approved the removal of pay scale anomalies for Computor Grade-II, Grade-I, and Head Computor positions under the Directorate of Land Records and Surveys, Assam.

With these initiatives, the Assam government aims to bolster educational opportunities and infrastructural development, fostering a brighter future for the state’s youth.
