Around 400 BJP workers from Bengal crossed over to Dhubri being persecuted: Himanta

May 4: A day after the results of the Assembly elections were declared, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday sought a report from the West Bengal government on post-poll violence “targeting opposition political workers” in the state. The BJP today alleged that nine of its party workers were killed in post-poll violence in the state in the last 24 hours.

However, on 4 April, Assam BJP leader Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet informed that as a result of the post-poll violence in West Bengal, around 400 BJP party workers fled over to Dhubri in Assam due to violence. The minister informed that Assam has given them shelter and is providing them with food. Taking a dig at West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote this “ugly dance of demonocracy must stop in Bengal.”

Taking to his twitter handle, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “In a sad development 300- 400 @BJP4 Bengal karyakartas and family members have crossed over to Dhubri in Assam after confronted with brazen persecution & violence. We’re giving shelter & food. @MamataOfficial. Didi must stop this ugly dance of demonocracy! Bengal deserves better.”

It needs mention here that on 3 May, Himanta twitted, “Over 24 hours that BJP won elections in Assam. Not a single Congress workers taunted, forget about being attacked. Not too far in Bengal, Didi’s Dadas have unleashed a reign of terror, assaulting & murdering BJP workers. Can the ‘LIBERALS’ spot the difference?”

Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee has called for calm though she has blamed the BJP for the violence. The BJP, led by president JP Nadda who is arriving in Kolkata on Tuesday, will hold a day-long protest across the country tomorrow, the day Ms Banerjee is sworn in as Chief Minister for the third time. Mamata Banerjee said, “Bengal is a peace-loving place. During the elections, there has been some heat and dust and calm. The BJP did a lot of torture, also the CAPF. But I appeal to all for calm. Don’t indulge in violence. If there is a dispute, inform the police. The police must manage law and order.”
