Around 18 people lost their lives in Assam due to storm & lightning in April: ASDMA

May 3: Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in its recent data stated that atleast 18 people lost their lives in April 2022 as a result of storms and lightning in various parts of the state. There were also loss of property. Houses and other infrastructure were also damaged due to harsh weather. Electric poles and trees have also been uprooted in many parts, snapping power supply and blocking roads, the ASDMA bulletin stated.

The ASDMA bulletin updated till Saturday stated that 3 persons were killed by lightning on Friday in Dhubri, Jorhat and Dibrugarh districts. Also, atleast 14 people including 2 minors were killed in lightning and storms within a span of three days since April 15.  Altogether, 4,630 people in 325 villages have been affected by torrential rain and storms over the last three days, the ASDMA bulletin said. More than 1,000 houses were damaged during the month along with several schools and Anganwadi centres.
