Arnab Goswami resigns from Editors Guild of India during live TV show

April 21: A household name in India, Arnab Goswami resigned from the Editors Guild of India “for its absolute compromise on editorial ethics.” Republic Television and Arnab Goswami, the two names are synonymous Goswami is no stranger to delivering ‘sensational’ statements while conducting debates on his show. While discussing the silence by ‘liberals’ on the lynching of three people in Maharashtra’s Palghar on Monday, announced his resignation on live from the Editors’ Guild of India.

Veteran journalist Shekhar Gupta, is the president of the Editors Guild. But his silence on the Maharashtra’s Palghar irked Arnab to such an extent that he tendered his resignation from the Guild during a live television programme. During the live show, he said, “Shekhar Gupta, you hear from me first. Whatever remaining credibility of the Editors’ Guild of India, has been destroyed by its abject silence on a series of fake news stories. It has been a self-serving organisation.”

On 16 April, two Hindu monks were lynched after they hired a driver to take them from Kandivali to attend a funeral in Surat, Gujarat. They were stoned to death on suspicion of thieves. This incident was vehemently criticised by Arnab in his live show. But just then taking all by surprise, Arnab Goswami declared, “I resign from the Editors Guild of India for its absolute compromise on editorial ethics, for being an organisation that is only operating in self-interest.”
