Arms Procurement Case: Manipur MLA Yamthung Haokip arrested by NIA

অস্ত্র চুরি মামলায় জড়িত থাকার অভিযোগে মণিপুরের সাইকুলের বিধায়ক ইয়ামথুঙ হাওকিপকে গ্রেফতার করেছে কেন্দ্রীয় তদন্তকারী সংস্থা এনআইএ। তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে এমন গুরুতর অভিযোগ আনা হয়েছে যে দোষী প্রমাণিত হলে শাস্তির খাড়া ঝুলবে। অবৈধভাবে পুলিশের পিস্তল অধিগ্রহণ এবং সেগুলো বিভিন্ন জঙ্গি দলকে সরবরাহ করার অভিযোগ রয়েছে বিধায়কের বিরুদ্ধে। তিনি সরকারের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াইয়ের ক্ষেত্র তৈরি করেছিলেন বলেও উল্লেখ রয়েছে এনআইএ-র মামলায়। তদন্তে নেমে এঁরা বহু গুরুত্বপূর্ণ তথ্য হাতে পেয়ে যায়। সেই সূত্রেই হাওকিপের বাড়ি থেকে প্রথমে একটি হারানো পিস্তল উদ্ধার করা হয়। পরে তল্লাশি চালিয়ে সেখানে এ সংক্রান্ত বহু নথিপত্রও মেলে। ২০১৬-১৭ সালে ইম্ফলে অবস্থিত সেকেন্ড মণিপুর রাইফেলস ব্যাটেলিয়ন চত্বরে থাকা ডিজি পুল অস্ত্রাগার থেকে উধাও হয়ে গিয়েছিল ৫৬টি পিস্তল ও ৫৮টি ম্যাগাজিন।

ধৃত হাওকিপ এখন তদন্তকারীদের নজরদারিতে হাসপাতালে চিকিতসাধীন। গ্রেফতারের পর অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়লে এনআইএ-র বিশেষ আদালত তাঁর উপযুক্ত চিকিতসার বন্দোবস্ত করতে নির্দেশ দেয়।

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Yamthung Haokip, MLA from Saikul Assembly constituency of Manipur in connection with the missing arms case. NIA registered grave charges against Haokip, which would invite intense punishment, if proved to be guilty. The arms went missing between 2016 and early 2017.

Yamthung Haokip has been accused of procuring police pistols illegally and then distributing the arms to different terrorist groups. The prime allegation is that he tried to wage a war against the state. During investigation, NIA extracted many important leads. On the basis of this one of the missing pistols was recovered from Haokip’s residence at Imphal’s Mantri Pukhri. Many important documents containing information of his involvement in the case was also recovered from his residence. A day before his arrest, nine missing pistols has been recovered from’s residence at at Mantrip Pukhri.  Soson Haokip is the chief of Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF).

The arms procured included 56 pistols and 58 magazines. These were stored at the DG Pool Armoury located within the premises of 2nd Manipur Rifles Battalion, Imphal. At present, Yamthung Haokip on health grounds have been admitted to government hospital by the jail authorities on the direction of the NIA Special Judge.
