Apollo Club distributes relief, volunteers sanitises locality
April 23: The members of Apollo Club, Meherpur, Silchar also stood by the people in distress during the nationwide lockdown and distributed grocery items among them. On Tuesday, they distributed grocery items among 118 people of Meherpur area. It needs mention that on April 12, they gave relief to another 80 poor persons. So far they have stood besides 200 persons.
The grocery commodities which were distributed by Apollo Club includes rice, dal, mustard oil, salt, soyabean. Speaking to way2barak, Joydip Chakraborty said that they will again distribute grocery items among the poor and needy on 26 April.
The greater Meherpur area has around 11 hospitals and more than 20 disgnostic centres which sees huge footfall of various type of patients. The local people have raised the demand of proper regular sanitisation of the private hospitals and its vicinity so that it could contain the spread of diseases. In this connection, they said that they have approached all power circles incuding the administration. However, Joydip Chakraborty lamented that no proper sanitisation was done.
It was then that Manab Singh, Zila Parishad Member of Sonai constituency with help from Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar tried to sanitise some parts of Meherpur manually. Manab Singh who is also a member of Apollo Club made arrangement of 2 containers used for sanitation. These were tied on their back by the volunteers of Apollo Club and some parts of the area was sanitised. However, speaking to our correspondent, Joydip Chakraborty of the Club said that this type of micro sanitisation is not enough. The need of the hour is full fleged sanitisation by fire engines. He tried to draw the attention of the district administration in this regard.
