Anti-CAA protest: School Teacher in Assam terminated from serviceক্যা বিরোধী আন্দোলনে গিয়ে চাকরি খোয়ালেন শিক্ষক
December 26: With the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), protests mounted in various parts of India including Assam. The protests turned into a violent one leading to destruction of public property. On the face of protests, Director of Elementary Education Department, Government of Assam, S K Bhuyan issued an order stating that disciplinary action will be initiated against those employees for violation of Assam Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules 1964. Warning was also given to employees against indulging in political activities by us in different social media like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter.
It is in this backdrop that a lady teacher, Bandita Borah working in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalya (JNV) in Assam’s Jorhat district as Faculty-cum-System Administrator (FCSA) was served with a termination notice for supporting school students participating in anti-CAA protests.
Speaking to India Today, the terminated teacher Bandita Borah said, “I was served a show cause notice by the school to which I responded but on December, 24, they gave me another order stating that the administration was not satisfied with my reply, and therefore for the welfare of the Vidyalaya and students my services were terminated with effect from 24/12/2019.”
The students extended support to the teacher demanding withdrawal of the termination notice. On the other hand, All Assam Students’ Union and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad have set “24-hour deadline” to restore the teacher.
