Another 3 deaths at SMCH

August 23: The coronavirus pandemic has now led to a procession of death also in Barak Valley. Though in terms of percentage, this may be very nominal or may be just a number, but for the family members of the deceased, each death means everything for them. Since the last few days, the valley witnessed many deaths, although all of them were not certified as COVID-19 deaths. However, this also cannot be denied that all of them were infected with coronavirus. The Valley witnessed 3 more deaths at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). Out of the three deceased, 2 are from Cachar and 1 from Karimganj. This was stated by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). The 3 deceased were identified as:

  • Chinubala Nath (67) from Vivekananda Road, Silchar was admitted at SMCH on 9 August. She was suffering from liver related problems apart from being positive. She died at 7.30 AM on 23 August. Her death was certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.
  • Ranendra Deb (74) from Srikona in Cachar was admitted at 7.18 PM on 18 August after testing corona positive. He was suffering from kidney related diseases and also had pneumonia. Though he died at 12.20 PM on 19 August, yet the State Death Audit Board regarded his case as Non-Covid death on 23 August.
  • Ranjit Kumar Dutta (74) from Badarpur in Karimganj district was admitted at SMCH at 8.29 PM on 19 August. He was suffering from pneumonia. He died at 8.50 PM on 22 August. This was certified by the Audit Board as Covid-19 death.
