NE India’s first-of-its-kind PET-MRI wing at State Cancer Institute, GMCH inaugurated by Venkaiah Naidu

Oct. 3: Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday inaugurated North East India’s first-of-its-kind PET-MRI Wing at State Cancer Institute, Guwahati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) in presence of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Rs 62 crore project is equipped with ‘Time of Flight’ tech; will augment cancer treatment in North East.

Government of Assam is implementing Distributed Cancer Care Model in the state in partnership with Tata Trust for providing timely & effective treatment to cancer patients. It aims to create patient- centric cancer institutions to deliver standardized & affordable cancer care.

Taking to his twitter handle, Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Pursuing vision of Hon PM Sri @narendramodi, Assam has created robust healthcare infra and ensures best services delivery, as seen during #COVID19 pandemic. Our mortality rate was less than 1%, and our healthcare workers ensured exemplary service during pandemic.”

The Vice President was accompanied by Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta among others during the inauguration of PET-MRI Wing at GMCH.
