‘Anaemic Mashi’ launched in. Hailakandi to reduce anaemia
Sept.21: As part of Poshan Maah celebration, the district administration, DPMU, Poshan Abhiyaan and Social Welfare Department organised an innovative program named “Anaemic Mashi” to reduce anemia among pregnant women and children.
In this unique program held at Indrakumari Girls’ Higher Secondary School auditorium here on Monday, a special orientation training was imparted by the functionaries of National Health Mission among the 50 numbers of Anganwari helpers (1st batch), highlighting the consequences of anaemia disease and the need for nutritious food to get rid of this aliment.
Deputy Commissioner, Megha Nidhi Dahal gave away certificates to the Anganwadi helpers at the end of the day-long training. Dahal asked them to play a proactive role in reducing anemia which leads to many a disease and fatalities among women. The Deputy Commissioner told the participants to create awareness on the importance of intake of leafy vegetables and balanced diet to fight anemia.
Dahal emphasised on the need for reducing anemia among children on ‘whose shoulders the future of the country hinges’. “A nation can become healthy and prosperous if the children who are the future of the country are healthy,” added Dahal. The Deputy Commissioner said the administration is according top priority to setting up nutri garden in Anganwadi centres as part of the ongoing Poshan Maah and exhorted everyone to start such gardens at their backyard of their homes or even plant vegetables in flower pots if land is not available to supplement their dietary needs.
District Coordinator, Poshan Abhiyaan, Rajat Chakraborty said following the training the Anganwadi helpers can work independently for the reduction of anaemia throughout the district. “Every 4th Saturday, data collection will be carried out by the Anganwadi helpers in their respective areas under this new initiative,” said Chakraborty. Last year, a noble initiative ‘Amla-Gur Candy’ to reduce anaemia among women and children gained in much popularity and earned laurels for the district at the state and national levels.
