An appeal by DC Cachar Keerthi Jalli on flood situation
May 17: Due torrential rainfall, the water level in Barak and all other rivers is rising. In this backdrop, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli made the following appeal to the people of the district:
“In view of the incessant rains and continuously rising water level in river Barak and other rivers, I appeal to the public not to panic. All relief and rescue measures are being taken by the District Administration with cooperation from Assam Rifles, CRPF, NDRF, SDRF etc. and all out efforts are on to ensure safety and security of the lives and properties of affected people.
Further, District Administration is also taking stern measures to control prices and ensure availability of essential commodities and emergency services. In town areas also people may be facing problems due to water logging. DDMA is working 24 x 7. Request public to inform DDMA about their problems. Also, since Meghalaya road and Lumding routes are blocked and restoration work will need some time, I appeal public to avoid travel unless extremely necessary. Moreover, all and especially children should not come out without any unavoidable reason so as to avoid contact with broken electric cables or possible accidents.
