Amit Shah sets 2024 as deadline for NRC, vows to drive out infiltrators by then

December 2: Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday set 2024 as the deadline for the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) across the country. He said that the government would expel all the infiltrators before the next Lok Sabha polls, scheduled in 2024. Shah said this while addressing a public rally in West Singhbhum in Jharkhand ahead of the Assembly elections.

Hitting out at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for opposing the NRC, Shah asked if Gandhi has “relatives” among the infiltrators. “Rahul Baba says don’t expel them. Where will they go, what will they eat? But I assure you that before the country goes to polls in 2024 all illegal immigrants will be thrown out,” Shah said.

This was not the first instance of Amit Shah making such statement on the NRC, which validates genuine Indian citizens. Earlier while addressing the Rajya Sabha, Amit Shah said the process would be carried out across the country. Shah said, “”The process of NRC will be carried out across the country. No one, irrespective of religion should be worried, it is just a process to get everyone under the NRC.”
