Amidst corona scare, people offers prayer at home & celebrates Eid-ul-Fitr with family
A quiet Eid without congregations
May 25: Eid-ul-Fitr is one of Islam’s most important festivals, celebrated on the first day of Shawwal to mark the end of the month of Ramazan. Unlike previous years, Eid ul-Fitr 2020 is being celebrated during the coronavirus-induced lockdown. The festival is being observed across the country without any prayer gatherings & outdoor celebrations. People are staying inside and offering namaz from their homes. Muslims confined their festivities indoors as mosques remained closed with the restrictions imposed on public gatherings for prayers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning wished the nation on Eid-ul-Fitr amid subdued celebrations due to coronavirus. “Eid Mubarak! Greetings on Eid-ul-Fitr. May this special occasion further the spirit of compassion, brotherhood and harmony. May everyone be healthy and prosperous,” PM Modi tweeted.

Major mosques and idghas that see tens of thousands of people offering namaz on Eid remain empty, perhaps for the first time. Religious gatherings remain prohibited amid coronavirus lockdown. Eid prayers were not offered at the iconic Jama Masjid. Shahi Imam of Delhi Jama Masjid Sayyed Ahmad Bukhari has appealed to people not to come to mosques to offer prayers and offer namaz at home in view of the pandemic. Home Minister Amit Shah extended his warm greetings on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. In a tweet today, he said, may this festival bring peace and happiness in everyone’s life.
At Silchar too, the largest congregation that takes place at the Itkhola Eidgah, gave deserted looks this year amidst the coronavirus pandemic. This year, the community observed the festival at homes with no public prayers, hugs, and dawats (get-togethers). On the day of Eid, the hashtags of #EidatHome and #EidiforMigrants were also trending on Twitter, requesting people to stay at home and help those in need.
