Amid farmer’s protest, President Kovind gives assent to 3 Farm Bills

Sept. 27: Amidst protests by farmers and opposition political parties across the nation, President of India, Ramnath Kovind gave his assent to the three Farm Bills on Sunday. Opposition alleged that the Bills were passed ‘unconstitutionally’ in ‘complete disregard’ of parliamentary democracy. Earlier, the opposition parties, led by the Congress, had met the President and urged him to return the Bills for reconsideration. The parties claimed that the bills are “anti-farmers” and will pave the way for the end of Minimum Support Price.
