ALUMNI ASSOCIATION MEETING AT GURUCHARAN UNIVERSITY

way2barak, August 12: Gurucharan University hosted its inaugural Alumni Meet on Sunday, the 10th of August in the University auditorium. The meeting convened at the behest of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Niranjan Roy, marked a decisive step for the new university towards building a strong alumni network that will contribute to its academic and professional ecosystem.

The Secretary of the Ad-hoc Committee of the Alumni Association and Member of the Executive Committee, Mr. Chandan Paul Choudhury delivered the Welcome Address. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Niranjan Roy, in his address emphasised the role of the alumni network as a valuable resource for mentorship, collaboration and, institutional development and called upon the strong alumni cohort of the erstwhile Gurucharan College to extend their support to strengthening the university’s outreach across various sectors. As part of his institutionalisation initiative of various facets of the university, the Vice Chancellor also announced plans to create an online portal for alumni registration and to establish an official building for the Alumni Association and launch various projects in partnership with alumni.

Mr. Tapash Paul, member of the Delhi-NCR Chapter of the Gurucharan College Alumni Association proposed the establishment of a symbiotic framework between the university and its alumni network and strongly insisted that the national and international character of the alumni association be maintained. Prof. Tapodhir Bhattacharjee, former Vice Chancellor of Assam University and distinguished alumnus of the college also delivered a speech on the occasion and expressed his wholehearted support for the university’s initiative to enhance the alumni association and assured his continued engagement and collaboration in its future activities.

A good number of alumni also joined the meeting in the virtual mode and took active part in the discussions. Prof. Kallol Paul, Vice Chancellor of Kalyani University, West Bengal emphasised the need to reify the local body of the Alumni Association under the aegis of the new university and its need to work mutually with the different chapters across the country to ensure meaningful contribution to the institution’s evolution.

Mr. Biswajit Paul stressed upon initiatives for industry linked training modules and internship opportunities for the students in partnership with the alumni. The event featured a robust interaction session with the members present both physically and virtually with speakers like Dr. Debasish Deb, Senior Scientist at the DRDO, Dr. Sontosh Ranjan Chakraborty, retired Head, Department of English, Cachar College, Mr. Sushil Paul, retired professor of Gurucharan College and several other prominent personalities who shared their valuable insights and reflections for the creation of a vibrant and engaged alumni community.

On this day, the Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Bjr Bikram University, Tripura and former Principal of erstwhile Gurucharan College, Dr. Bibhas Deb was also present as a member of the alumni and spoke briefly on the importance of leveraging the expertise and network of the ex-students to benefit the current ones.

Senior alumni of Gurucharan College present on the dais, Prof. Niranjan Dutta and Mr. Sankar Chakraborty also conveyed their readiness to contribute resources and experience to advance the objectives of the association. Mr. Subhashish Choudhury, a younger member of the alumni association and a recent graduate of the college also stressed upon the need to engage the alumni working in academia to bolster the research wing of the university.

Mr. Shibabrata Dutta, President of the Ad-hoc Committee of the Alumni Association delivered the Presidential Address in which he reinforced the active involvement of the alumni in the university’s future endeavours and resolved to provide all necessary support in the university’s NAAC accreditation process, especially in the development of sports infrastructure through his capacity as the President of the District Sports Association. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Dipankar Kar, the Vice President of the Gurucharan College Alumni Association Ad-hoc Committee.
