Alleged sex racket busted at Vivekananda Road, Silchar; 1 woman arrested
March 24: People of the locality were aware of suspicious illegal activities being conducted in a rented house at Vivekananda Road, Silchar for quite a long time. Finally, on Wednesday night, the locals alleged that on entering into the house they found 2 couples in compromising position. However, they said that the four persons inside the house somehow eloped from the spot.
Meanwhile, at their call, other people of the area gathered there and the police was also informed. Police reached the house and recovered large quantity of condoms and other such items from the room. A middle aged lady who took the house on rent was apprehended by the police on alleged charges of running a sex racket there. The woman arrested is learnt to have been an original resident of Sonai Road, Silchar.
Meanwhile, police is interrogating the lady to unearth the facts. However, such activities in a residential area has led to anger among the local people. The people have also alleged that in the recent past drugs business was also carried on in that house. They have demanded a proper investigation of the matter.
Expressing her views, Superintendent of Police, Ramandeep Kaur said, “We have apprehended a 59-year-old lady Farida Begum was apprehended on charges of running an illegal business at Vivekananda Road. Apparently, it seems to have a wider nexus and we will try to nab all those connected with it.”
