All party delegation to visit New Delhi to resolve Assam – Mizoram border dispute
July 31: An all-party delegation led by State Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimari, who visited the Lailapur border on Saturday has decided to support the steps to be taken by the government to develop the infrastructure in the border area. The delegation visited the Lailapur border in Cachar district and took a unanimous decision at a meeting at the conference hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Silchar.
At the meeting, the delegation unanimously decided that the steps that need to be taken at the border security level will have the support of the delegation. The meeting decided to approach the central government with an all-party delegation to resolve the border dispute. The meeting unanimously condemned the manner in which Mizo miscreants and Mizo police fired on police and government officials on duty while guarding Assam’s constitutional boundary last Monday.
While addressing the members present at the meeting, Speaker Daimari said, “Just as all parties in Mizoram are united in protecting the borders of Mizoram, in a same note, all parties in our state must also be united. If the current policy and law do not allow for settlements in the reserve forest area of the border, then there is a need to formulate new policies or enact laws in the interest of protection of our border.”
MLA Jayant Malla Baruah also advised to be careful so that no one is evicted within the constitutional limits of the state. MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, MLA Abdul Karim Barbhuiya also supported the government’s move to protect the border in the interest of the people of the state.
