All Mail & Express trains to soon have only AC coaches & no sleeper class: Railway Board

Oct. 11: In a new move, the Indian Railways have now decided to do away with sleeper coaches from mails and express trains. Sleeper coaches, henceforth will be available only in slow moving passenger and local trains. This move of converting all mails and express trains to fully air conditioned mode will no doubt bring comfort to the passengers. But at the same time, the move will make long distance train journey more costly.

Expressing his views, Railway Board Chairman and CEO Vinod Kumar Yadav said, “The policy change from sleeper to AC is aligned with the Railways’ plan to raise the speed of about 1900 mail and express trains to 130 kmph by 2023.”
