All-ladies group, ‘Adwitiya’ stands beside poor children of rural Cachar

May 11: After more than two years period of Covid-19 pandemic, when the world is gradually limping back to normalcy, yet the after effects seems to leave behind a deep hangover. The children were probably the worst sufferers, as academic activities were shelved for quite a considerable time. Though much uproar of online mode of education was heard during this phase, yet for the poor children in the rural set up had to remain out of the bounds of the arena of online mode of learning.

Many good Samaritans during this crisis phase have come forward to stand besides the poor and needy and offered help to their best possible extent. Once such all-ladies group, ‘Adwitiya – Celebrating Womanhood’ came forward to help such disadvantaged children in rural Cachar. They went to two different places on 8 May and 11 May and distributed teaching- learning materials and food packets among such disadvantaged children.

On 8 May, members of Adwitiya went to Kathal Bagan area of Silchar where they interacted with the children of the tea garden community. There they distributed teaching learning materials like books, copies, scale, pencil, eraser and water bottles among 50 children of the tea labourers. The smile on the face of these children was enough to understand the joy which they experienced on receiving the materials. Sharmistha Bhattacharjee, Moumita Gupta and Moutushi Bhattacharjee of Adwitiya also spent quality time by interacting with the children.

On 11 May, again, the members of Adwitiya went to a remote area at Konatilla in Borkhola constituency of Cachar. There they visited Khoreel Tea Estate and went to meet the children at Adibashi Vidya Niketan. Apart from teaching- learning materials, members of Adwitiya also distributed biscuits, chocolates and other dry food items among 50 children of that school. Present on behalf of Adwitiya were Sharmistha Bhattacharjee, Moumita Gupta, Papon Deb, Alpana Deb and Moutushi Bhattacharjee.

Expressing her views, Sharmistha Bhattacharjee of ‘Adwitiya’ said, “We are an all-ladies Facebook group based in Silchar. At this hour of crisis, we decided to come out of the virtual world and stand besides the disadvantaged populace staying in the vicinity of Silchar in our own little way. We do hope to try and extend help to those in need in the near future also.”
