Dibyendu Barua inaugurated All India Inter NIT Cricket and Chess Tournament in NIT Silchar

way2barak, December 20 : NIT Silchar is hosting the All India Inter NIT Cricket and Chess Tournament 2024 for Students from 20-23 December to celebrate Fit India Week under the Ministry of Education, Govt  of India. The inaugural Ceremony of the four-day sports extravaganza was held on 19.12.2024 at 4:00 PM at the Sports Complex of the institute. Participants from NIT J&K to NIT Goa and NIT Jalandhar to NIT Arunachal Pradesh are participating in the tournament. More than 650 students from 30 NITs are participating in the tournament for the championship trophy in Cricket and Chess.

Dibyendu Barua, an Indian chess grandmaster, has graced the inaugural ceremony as Chief Guest. Prof. S.S. Dhar, Dean (SW) welcomed all the participants and wished them for their matches.

Prof. Fazal Ahmed Talukdar, the organizing committee chairman, welcomed the teams to the tournament and briefly presented the institute’s history. He mentioned that the participation of 30 NITs in the tournament itself is the winning moment.

Prof. Dilip Kr Baidya, Director, NIT Silchar, in his address, welcomed the team to NIT Silchar and mentioned that their visit to Silchar would be memorable. He narrated that the people of Silchar are extremely cordial and that all the teams will enjoy Silchar’s love and warmth.

At the inauguration ceremony, Prof. Asim Roy, Registrar, and Dr. Hem Prasad Nath, SAS officer, NIT Surathkal, and national observer of the tournament.

The Chief Guest, Dibyendu Barua, motivated the students to participate and engage in sports to improve their mental health.

The tournament is hosted on five grounds, including DSA, India Club, and SMCH. The DSA match officials are invited to conduct the matches.

The matches will be played in league cum knockout format. The final game will be played at the institute cricket ground on 23.12.2024.

The chess will be held at the indoor stadium of NIT Silchar under the supervision of the professional certified curator/observer of Silchar/Dibrugarh, Assam.

The four-day cricket and chess spectacular will likely catch national attention for the next couple of days. 30 NITs came together to celebrate the spirit of cricket and chess and enjoy a fair and exciting tournament ahead.
