All ferry services on river Barak within the districts of Cachar & Karimganj suspended: IWTD

May 14: Due to incessant rainfall since the last few days, the water level of river Barak started to increase. As per report received from Assam Water Resource Department, river Barak at Annapurna Ghat, Silchar at 8 PM on Saturday was flowing much above the danger level and was at 20.07 metre. The danger level at this point is 19.83 metre. The water level was rising by 6 cm per hour. Water level of other rivers in the valley were also rising. It is in this backdrop that ferry services were cancelled by Inland Water Transport Division, Silchar.

It is for the general information of all concerned that river water level has already crossed the danger level this evening as measured in Annapurnaghat. As such, as a precautionary measure and in view of overall safety of life and property, all ferry services on the river Barak within the districts of Cachar and Karimganj under Inland Water Transport Division, Silchar are suspended with immediate effect until further order.” This was stated in a notice issued by the Executive Engineer, Inland Water Transport Division, Silchar on Saturday.
