All admission in colleges to be done online, free books to HS 2nd year students to be given from 26 to 28 May

May 7: Amidst the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown, life has come to a standstill. Since the mid of March, all educational institutions are closed. In order to break the chain of the deadly coronavirus, maintaining social distancing norms has become a must. In order to avoid crowd, Assam government has directed all colleges in the state to go for online mode of admission of the students. This would help to flatten the curve and protecting the students from close contact. The decision of conducting online admission by the colleges this year was announced by State Education Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press briefing in Guwahati on Thursday.

The minister also informed that during online admission, provision ought to be made by the colleges so that the students can mention their bank account number along with IFSC Code so that in the near future, the state government may provide financial assistance to the students directly.

He further stated that free books will be distributed for the students of HS Final Year in their respective colleges from 26 May to 28 May, 2020. Students are to collect the textbooks from their respective schools/colleges by wearing face mask and maintaining social distancing.
