Alarming! 29 tests positive in last 4 days at Cachar Cancer Hospital
August 26: With the rise in number of novel coronavirus cases in Cachar, persons from almost all places are now infected. Health care workers, teachers, students, traders and all other persons from various walks of life have fallen as a victim of COVID-19. However, what seemed to be more alarming is the spike in the cases at Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (CCHRC), Meherpur, Silchar. A total of 29 positive cases were detected from CCHRC in the last 4 days, out of which, majority of them are patients.
On 26 August, 2 persons from Cachar Cancer Hospital were detected as COVID-19 positive. Another 8 persons were found positive on 25 August. Further, 13 persons at CCHRC tested positive on 24 August. On 23 August, six more tested coronavirus positive. Prior to that 2 doctors and some staff of the Cancer Hospital were also found positive. The staff detected positive are mostly from the radiation section of the hospital. The positive patients were kept in an Isolation Ward within the hospital campus.
This has now became a major cause of concern both for the hospital authorities and also for the district health department. A source on condition of anonymity said that as huge number of visitors/ attendants come to see the patients, it may be possible that the virus has spread through them. Moreover, at present, there is a huge rush of patients at Cachar Cancer Hospital as those who used to go earlier in Mumbai, Kolkata, South India etc. for treatment are unable to move out due to the ongoing pandemic.
