Agriculture Dept starts inspection in markets to stop black marketing of vegetables

May 20: The Cachar District Administration has taken strict measures to stop black marketing of essential commodities. Now, even the officials of Agriculture Department were seen go around various vegetable and fruit markets in Silchar town to keep a check on the price. On Friday, the team of officers from Agriculture Department went and checked prices of fruits and vegetables at Fatak Bazar, Tarapur, Rangirkhari, Lakhipur, Katigorah etc.

Although the district administration Cachar is repeatedly issuing strict warning to shopkeepers not to hike prices of essential food products, yet social media is replete with allegations by the people where vegetables are sold at much higher price than that fixed by the administration in consultation with Food Grains Merchant Association.

Moreover, Magistrates have been deputed by the district administration at various markets (both retail and wholesale) to check whether the merchants are abiding as per the direction. During one such raid on Friday, one store, M/S Santoshi Sabji Arat was sealed at Fatak Bazar due to non issuance of cash memo and charging higher price of commodities. The proprietor of this shop is one Mr T.Roy. Magistrate Himashri Deka led the team which sealed the erring shop.
