After ‘Coronasur’ it’s weather which is going to play spoilsport during Durga Puja

Oct. 22: The festive mood of Durga Puja, 2020 has already been dampened by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. In almost all major states including Assam, several restrictions were put in place to put on hold the further spread of the deadly virus during the festival season. Due to COVID-19, the Durga Puja arrangements were already a low-key affair, and now, it’s the weather forecast, which has become a major cause of concern for the people and the puja organisers.

As per the data sheet released by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, South Assam is going to receive maximum rainfall during the 1st 3 days of Durga Puja including Sasthi. As per weather reports, on 22 October (Sasthi Puja), the 4 districts of South Assam- Dima Hasao, Cachar, Hailakandi & Karimganj will experience “Thunderstorm with lightning and very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places.”

The next day, that is, on 23 October (Maha Saptami), “Thunderstorm with lightning and extremeely heavy rain is very likely at isolated places in Dima Hasao, Cachar, Hailakandi & Karimganj. Again, on the day of Maha Asthami (24 October), there will be thunderstorm with lightning very likely at isolated places.”

On 25 October (Maha Navami), the 4 districts of South Assam will experience “Thunderstorm with lightning very likely at isolated places.” However, on the day of Bijaya Dashami (26 October), no warning has been given by the Regional Meteorological Centre for Dima Hasao, Cachar, Hailakandi & Karimganj.
