June 3: There will be no Class 12 board exams this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday, ending weeks of anxiety among students and parents over the Covid situation in the country. Following the step, Gujarat Uttarakhand and Maharashtra has also cancelled the Class XII Board examinations of their respective states.
Uttarakhand has cancelled the UBSE Class 12 board examinations amid spike in COVID-19 cases in the state, state’s Education Minister Arvind Pandey said. He said that the students will be promoted as per CBSE and CISCE regulations. CBSE had said that it would take steps to compile results of Class 12 students as per well-defined objective criteria. The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) on Wednesday cancelled the Class XII examinations. This comes a day after the Board released the revised date sheet for the exams. The state board examinations for Classes X and XII in Maharashtra have been cancelled this year in view of the prevailing coronavirus pandemic, minister Vijay Wadettiwar announced on Thursday.
While announcing the decision of cancellation of Class XII Board exams of CBSE on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that decision was taken because of “uncertain conditions” due to COVID-19 and based on feedback from different stakeholders. “Students should not be forced to appear for exams in such a stressful situation. The health and safety of our students is of utmost importance and there will be no compromise on this aspect,” a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said. Both CBSE and CISCE Class 12 exams have been cancelled.
