AFSPA withdrawn from Dibrugarh

way2barak March 28: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the official revocation of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) from Dibrugarh district. With this decision, only three districts—Tinsukia, Sivasagar, and Charaideo—remain under AFSPA in Assam.
Addressing a press conference, CM Sarma highlighted that this move marks another milestone in the state government’s efforts to restore peace and stability. “I am pleased to inform you that the Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to withdraw AFSPA from Dibrugarh. As you know, we have been working to develop Dibrugarh as Assam’s second capital, and following our request, the Union Home Minister promptly approved the withdrawal. Now, AFSPA is in force in only three districts, while the remaining 32 are free from it,” Sarma stated.
