AFSPA extended in Nagaland for 6 more months

July 1: The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) was extended for another six months in Nagaland. Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday declared Nagaland a “disturbed area” for six more moths till December-end under the AFSPA. In a notification issued by the MHA it was stated that the Centre is of the opinion the Nagaland is in ‘disturbed’ and ‘dangerous’ condition. The AFSPA was introduced in the north-eastern states to curb insurgency. It allows armed forces the power to maintain public order in ‘disturbed areas.’
